Whenever I shoot in a loft downtown, I get visions of owning my very own studio/work space, with a constant parade of models sunning themselves in front of my huge, perfect windows. Me effortlessly snapping away while gorgeous girls tumble around in the glow of the magic hour. It would mean less travel, less packing, and less hauling equipment up strange elevators. Granted, that’s why I have assistants, but it makes me feel mild pangs of guilt to watch them lugging gear in the LA heat.
We shot this in one of these jealousy-inspiring lofts, and this set utilized a bedroom that was bathed in that buttery, wonderful 3:00 pm dreaminess. Pairing awesome natural light with Shay, a model in full command of her powers, produces amazing results (see below). It was a challenge to pick the best shots because all of the frames were quality. Thanks a lot, Shay!
It was one of those afternoons that makes me feel very fortunate to do this job. It didn’t hurt that we had an awesome crew there: Shay of course, Willie T shooting video, artist Jim Mahfood sketching the whole thing…. and a cameo appearance by Bear. “Oh, such a perfect day,” Lou Reed sings, and even though that song is probably about heroin, I couldn’t agree more.
